We have been prepared and geared to be the great player in the industry we operate in through  the South32 and Transnet Enterprise Development Programmes that we have been involved in; these programmes has significantly increased competitiveness, capability and capacity of the South African supply base where there are comparative advantages and potential for local or regional supply. We are now considered to be a local, and international competent and competitive supplier/ service provider.

South32 Enterprise Development Programme.

Gigiseka Construction is a proudly active participant in a South32 Supplier Development Programme facilitated by Collective Value Creation (Pty) Ltd. The programme has equipped us with the understanding of business in general, mining and private sector tendering, procurement and operational compliance.

The mentorship support provided by experts from various industries in the programme has widen our capability, capacity and service offering, as this exposed us to different industries and business sectors at once.

We would like to send our sincerely gratitude to South32 for such great opportunities they afforded us with and also like to encourage other Exempted Micro Enterprises and Qualifying Small Enterprises to always be on the look for great opportunities on South32’s Intsika portal.

South32 is indeed a good corporate citizen; they have uplifted entrepreneurs in the local communities in which they operate and we are looking forward to long-lasting business relationship with them.

Transnet Gazelles Supplier Development Programme

In 2018 Gigiseka Construction was selected as one of the Top 20 Transnet Gazelles and was placed in a 12 months Transnet Gazelles Supplier Programme (TGSP). The TGSP was facilitated by Mtiya Dynamics (Pty)Ltd through Business Doctors which provided us with the high-level support we needed to further grow our business and make a significant impact.

The TGSP initiative concentrated on increasing the capability of small local suppliers and are targeted toward historically disadvantaged individuals and communities, providing basic skills development and improving local employment and quality job creation. It included a wide range of non-financial services that help entrepreneurs start new business and grow existing ones.

We received the following in the programme:

  • Expert mentorship and skills development, to develop our brand, technical ability and business management skills.
  • A customised business strategy tailored to our company needs (based on a gap diagnostic Transnet ran with us).
  • Access to key networks, and government and private tender opportunities.
  • Registration as vendor on the Transnet database.

Transnet Soc (Ltd) recognised Gigiseka Construction as a professional organisation which operates to a high standard and can compete effectively in the market.

Gigiseka is primarily a construction company conducting business in the Civil Engineering, Building, Mining and Mechanical Engineering Sectors which strives towards a world-class health and safety performance. It is our key priority to maintain the health and safety of our employees as well as the communities in which we operate. While we operate in an inherently a high-risk industry we are committed to our moral and legal obligation to safeguard the wellbeing of all our stakeholders, and aims to achieve zero harm.

All management and staff shall openly commit themselves to active participation in the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 Health and safety Management system which has been integrated into a management system combining the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, All applicable South African statutory and regulatory requirements, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996, are adhered to, thus ensuring legal compliance. This further enhances our efforts to maintain the safety, health, environmental and quality standards within our various operations.

Our goal is a healthy, injury free work place. By working together in all parts of the Health and Safety Program, we expect to achieve zero incidents, losses and injuries.

All our project operations have moved beyond conservative compliance and we embrace a framework that encourages ownership and empowers our people to make good decisions through authority, responsibility and accountability and this framework is applied across all levels of employment within Gigiseka Construction Services (Pty)Ltd.

Visible Felt Leadership (VFL)

Establishing visible felt leadership was one of the key drivers identified to energize the ‘WILL’ of Gigiseka staff and to demonstrate safety ownership and commitment. site leadership believed that a good safety culture is one of the key enablers to achieving an injury-free workplace. Hence, the leadership worked on transforming the culture and practices throughout the engagement.

This felt leadership from management leads our people at all levels to understand and “feel” our leaders’ high standards, and accept their strong commitment to safety as non-negotiable. Focusing on visible felt leadership produced increased trust and ownership within the organization. As a result, there were clear changes in workers’ behavior.

Continuous improvement at Gigiseka has become our way of doing business. We have systems, procedures and processes in all our businesses to support our aim of total customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. The Process of On-Going Improvement (POOGI) is one key strategy that we have adopted in all our operations to constantly improve the way in which contracts are executed and Improving the operational efficiency on all projects.

We acknowledge that Gigiseka Construction Services (Pty)Ltd, as part of the communities within which we operate, have an equal responsibility to preserve our environment.

We undertake to comply with ISO 14001, an international standard for environmental management systems. Our critical environmental standards apply across all our project operations and aim to create a common purpose and approach. They guide operations on how to manage environmental issues, including carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, waste management, prevention of pollution to water, air and land, regulatory compliance and environmental data.

It is a component of Gigiseka’s policy to undertake projects in a manner which complies with national environmental regulations and with an innate sense of responsibility to protect our natural environment, resources and heritage.

Gigiseka is committed to the ongoing environmental education of its employees and our environmental framework and policy is reviewed on an annual basis and published on our portal and website, where it is easily accessible. We strive to be ISO 14001 certified.

Gigiseka Construction is acutely aware of the responsibility that it has in developing the potential of the broader South African community and we consider our positive impact on people’s lives through Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives to be a moral responsibility rather than a contractual obligation.

We aim to focus our CSI Initiatives and efforts into training, skills transfer and sponsoring social programmes in schools, children’s homes, churches and many other institutions. We train and empower communities through subcontracting, mentoring and skills transfer and also involve ourselves in alleviating poverty through donating food and clothing to the needy.

We ensure that our investments and donations are aligned with our values, brand and community development strategies and current needs of the community.

Gigiseka normally form strategical partnership with non-profit organisations and other institutions whose primary objectives is to positively impact people’s lives and uplift the living standards of disadvantaged communities; with great emphasis on the local communities in which our projects are based.

Unethical behaviour in the workplace is often undetected and unreported and results in financial losses to companies and works to the detriment of us all. Gigiseka Construction is committed to conducting business honestly and with integrity.

This protects the name and reputation of our company and our employees.

Gigiseka Construction has subscribed to an independent service that allows employees to report anonymously any unethical behaviour or dishonesty. The hotline is run independently of Gigiseka Construction and no one need ever know who has made a report.

It is a company with a strong value system and it requires ethical business conduct from all its employees. Gigiseka will not accept any anti-competitive behaviour from any of its employees.

Gigiseka Construction endeavours to comply with the laws and regulations of the countries in which it operates. Amongst others, Gigiseka Construction will comply with the South African Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (“PRECCA”), The Protection of Whistle Blower Act of 1989 as well as the UK Bribery Act 2010.
